In undernourished sounds, in overzealous crowds

I just got back from Toby's bachelor party. It was awesome. Ten thumbs up in your rectum, if only to hold in the farts that are unavoidable when you cram 12 or 13 dudes into two cabins and feed them mexican food. Music selection this week:

Trap Them - Darker Handcraft
Pretty good. Doesn't grab me quite as well as Seizures, but it's a solid outing. Makes me want to mosh-drive a semi into a crowd of people. As usual the artwork kills, wasn't done by Jacob Bannan which is kind of a surprise as he did all the artwork for their other albums. Album is awesome.
Twisted Sister - Come Out and Play
I BELIEVE, IN ROCK AND ROLL! Hell yes. Dee Snider is a modern day Prometheus, giving us the fire of heavy metal in all its glory. About as good as Stay Hungry, the heavy songs rule and the ballads also rule. I Believe in You is the standout track, Snider asks the world for more, for just one person to say those four words, good times are had.
Pedro the Lion - Control
I fell asleep to this the other day. Levi suggested I listen to it and he is a cool guy for doing that. I don't know how to critique this style of music, it makes me feel dozy and warm, that's cool I guess.
Judas Priest - Stained Class
Another 70's Priest album, another collection of solid hits. I just fucking love this band, can hype me up day or night. Rob Halford likes to ride onstage on a motorcycle and you can totally see why. Because do you have to die to be a hero? That's why. I will continue to progress through JP's discography on this blog.
Testament - The Formation of Damnation
I was surprised to learn that Testament continued to make good music past the death of thrash metal in the 90's, their style changed with the decades but that's okay. I think this album came out mid-2000's? It's definitely heavier than their old stuff, solid riffs, if you changed the vocals there wouldn't be much to pick them out from contemporary metal bands. Most metal bands would likely (and do) pay homage to this band. Their new album should be out right away, definitely want to get my hands on that.

Stay posi, friends.

Live life by the throat, tear out its eyes.

I'm bored and nobody wants to hang out with me. Wait..  seriously? That sucks. I'm just gonna blog about some half-listened to metal albums.

Judas Priest - Sin After Sin
Great. Just fucking awesome. Not quite the same thing as Turbo, though they can both be appreciated for what they are. This album is more of a throwback to Zeppelin, Turbo is, well, more diesel. Smoke weed and listen to this album, it will cure a bad mood unless you are completely dead inside, in which case you better figure that shit out bro.
Carcass - Descanting the Insalubrious
Last week I hadn't listened to this album. I've heard a few songs off of it, they're not exactly what I was expecting, maybe that's because I had this band mixed up with Cannibal Corpse for a long time. It's really, really heavy death metal, not really grind though. Some of it almost sounds hardcore punk influenced, which is possible, but unlikely for a death metal band. I still have to listen to the rest of this album.
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Pretty great. The slower songs can be kind of monotonous but they aren't redundant by any means. First track on the album has so much energy, it's obvious that this band has roots in hardcore. I think I remember hearing that they influenced many contemporary death metal bands. Wiki that shit I guess.
Trap Them - Sleepwell Deconstructor/Seance Prime
If you slept on this band then you lost the game of sleeping on bands. Aside from maybe a demo or something I think this is their first album..  Seance Prime has one of my favorite tracks ever, it's called Pulse Mavens, simply the strongest lead riff and lyrics. The lyrics are difficult to even understand because they are so deeply conceptual and meandering. They have another album called Seizures in Barren Praise, wherein Barren Praise is a town, and the whole album tells the story of the town. Itès all good, listen to this fucking band.

Thatès all for right now because I want to smoke. Ièm downloading some Testament and Down. Hooray.

Big-time

So here's what we're dealing with guys: go to www.soundcloud.com/deathking-0 I just recorded some tracks with slightly better sound. It sounds like somebody tried to rip off both Integrity and Converge, which is precisely what I did. I would love to recruit some members into this and play shows, but that would probably be short-lived because I'm about 80% sure I'm moving away this Fall. We'll see what happens though, if there were enough going on here to tie me down I'd stay for another year or whatever.

As always you should also check out qcp.proboards.com for upcoming shows and talk about music and posting stupid pictures. I got instagram. My name thing is just andyplatt so add me on there eh.  My mouth tastes like Brussel Sprouts right now, isn't that super metal? That shit was always delicious to me growing up.

I'm checking out the following bands this week:

Slipknot - Self titled
This was heavier than I originally pegged Slipknot out to be. Favorite song so far is (Sic). They sound like Hatebreed kind of, except not as awesome or motivational as Hatebreed.
Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious
Haven't actually listened to this yet
Whitechapel - Self titled
I've listened to a few songs but can't find the album illegally. The songs are darker than previous material, but not as interesting as New Era of Corruption, which was an awesome album. Worth listening to.
Mayhem - Chimera
This is my first Black Metal album, I'm really into some of it, but some of it is kind of lame. Insanely heavy and creative use of instruments, but I'm not into shit that is serious about worshiping Satan. Satan doesn't exist, you bitch-hole. Pretty awesome though overall.

Maybe I will get into regular posting and posting links to these files, maybe. I'm pretty bored on my days off so this seems like a worthwhile investment of my time. Peace out fuck.

The waiting is always the hardest part..

"intelligent people talk about ideas, average people talk about events, and ignorant people talk about other people"

Can't agree more. This was sent to me about a month ago by a dear friend, and I just can't fucking agree more. Anyways, I just got my firepod in the mail, and it still doesn't work. Many, many curse words for the makers of this product. Will have to wait until Monday to find out if it is worth anything at all to hold onto. Wish I would have just bought a brand new Firestudio, but not only is it impossible to change the past, it is impossible for the past to exist. That's another story for another blog though..   been reading some good books lately. Ordered the Doors of Perception, pretty excited to read about experiments in human consciousness. I'm gonna get tattooed next paycheck. Here is a good note to go out on:

The eyes of reason covered by the devil's hands. Here's another good song, as this is pretty much all that I care about in my life of lives:
Hopefully I can have some of my own music to post here in a few weeks.

Livejournal shit

I just wanted to share what gets me through tough moods and moments and days.

This is for the kids who have no where to turn
Who have nothing to live for
You think you haven't the will to persist
You have to search within yourself

All the work that you've done in vein
Been overlooked and taken for granted
Only you can end your suffering
You must be honest with yourself
You have nothing left to lose
You feel that everyone's out to get you
Been beaten down but the hate still breathes
Confined by consequence, it's your soul you must release

It's our struggles that define us
And the hardships we endure
Your spirit can't be broken now
You've come too far

All your life
You told yourself you were never alone
All your time
Spent on the problems that have no solution
In your mind
Giving up was never an option
Out of spite
Hold onto the hate that has helped you stay focused

You are one but you're never alone
You can't atone for every promise you've broken
In this moment there's no way you can fail
You must be honest with yourself
Use your pain to achieve your goals
Make amends while you can and stay focused
You can't be burdened by your lack of control
Never stray from the path you have chosen

It's our struggles that define us
And the hardships we endure
Your spirit can't be broken now
You've come too far

All your life
You told yourself you were never alone
All your time
Spent on the problems that have no solution
In your mind
Giving up was never an option
Out of spite
Hold onto the hate that helped you stay focused

This is for the kids who have no where to turn
Who have nothing to live for
You think you haven't the will to persist
You have to search within yourself
This spirit can't be broken (3x)
It's who you are

It's our struggles that define us
And the hardships we endure
Your spirit can't be broken now
You've come too far

Forever,forever,forever convicted
Forever forever..convicted

I live in a new place. I'll maybe post some pictures but really I'd rather show it off in person, if you're not one of the 230498 awesome people who have moved away from Regina consider that statement.
